My husband and I surprised our children with a train ride on the Alaska Railroad down to Seward and then an all day boat tour of the Kenai Fjords during Memorial Day weekend. The children were so surprised when we drove to the train station and boarded the train!
The day was chilly and rainy, but the weather didn't dampen our spirits. We bundled up in our extra gear and enjoyed the relaxing ride down to Seward. The boat ride was a little hectic because the ocean was a little rough. But the rocking back and forth just added to the excitement and the adventure of the day!
It seems the crummy weather brought out all sorts of wild life. We saw Humpback whales, Orca whales, black bear, puffins, mountain goats, sea lions and many different types of sea birds.
My daughter ended up taking my camera for much of the trip. She's certainly a budding 
photographer and a quick learner! As soon as she learns to keep the horizon straight on
her images, I think she's going to have a real future in photography! :)
